Sigree Global Grill, Chennai

Sigree Global Grill, The Spring Hotels

I mean C'mon! I've been by this road a thousand times to dine at Kumarakkom, Nungumbakkam and I am shocked at myself that I've never noticed this place or heard about it! Looks like my horizontal vision is fading with age! Ok that's an exaggeration!!! I do not have such vision but usually I am pretty alert with people posting about such places. Well, probably that's because I am spending lesser time in front of Facebook and not very active on the food groups that I used to haunt. Time to catch up...

So once again another Farewell and to drown all the sorrows down it had to be a rendez-vous and a hogging session. Left it to junior to decide his place of choice and he came up with this exotic restaurant. My guess is the property belongs to the Superstar, please correct me if I am wrong...It is ideally located in Kodambakkam High Road,Nungumbakkam sandwiched between Kumarakkom which caters to Kerala cuisine and The Palmgrove hotel (vegetarian) which has been in Chennai for donkey years (best known for its South Indian delicacies!)

I pretty much loved the ambiance at Sigree as we stepped in and the concept of the BBQ ed food is very similar to that of Barbecue Nation.

If you are able starve all day, then head for such food orgies. With poor appetites like mine and with vegetarianism being the latest "ism" added to the rest, this is not a place for you. The spread is certainly good and lavish! But, from my observation of the service is that both the non-veg and veg are served on skewers adjacent to each other. I do have certain food allergies and there was a light allergic trigger. Perhaps the fault lies with my not specifying but then again attention to such details is mandatory on the side of service.
That wooden plank opens to a grill area where coal starts burning the moment you are seated

Our welcome drink was a beautiful Orange fizzy drink which kept coming in non-stop. There were refills and pitchers galore for everybody at any table!

The veg skewers-pineapple, mushroom, paneer and broccoli
I loved the bread platter with the dips that came in the moment we sat down and our plates (veg plates have a green rim around the plate) were set. I somehow missed clicking that platter, guess I was taking in the ambiance or checking out the dudes behind the open glass counter churning out the fresh pastas, bread and pizzas on request. No, I was not checking them out (sheepish grin) Oh Well, was checking what they were kind of working on (nerdy look with glasses and my eyebrows knit!!!)
I did not click a lot of pictures with the skewers on the grill at our table...but I could see the happy and elated expressions on the faces of the others along with me devouring the non-veg spread. Very content faces chewing slowly and enjoyably and making space for more. I could visualize the compartments that they were setting aside in their tummies as they made way for the seafood, chicken and somebody was even attacking my share of the veg.

Once you are done with the grilled food that they serve at the table, you can go in for the buffet that tags along. By the time you have had all your foodgasms with the skewered food...Sigh! getting into this buffet is a herculean task unless you followed my advice of starving the whole day and then going for this.
These babies were really cute and was tucked away in the salad/pickle/papad counter. Check out those hot green chillies!
Now, that was a terrific mango relish...something I prepare at home as my quick mango pickle just that I don't cut them into strips. It was a bit too mustardy, nevertheless a really nice "touchings" to go with a drink which I understand one could order as well!
The dessert section had an array of delicious bakes , ice-cream and fruits

This is what the waiters with very accented English would initially introduce you to. The red denotes 'Stop' when you are done with the skewers and your tummy can't take anymore or flip The Green when you are just sitting there like a dustbin waiting for anything to be dumped in literally! Go Go go...

This is the cue that the guys at service pick up and continue to serve you accordingly. Service is fast and diligent but the accent is very difficult to decipher or inaudible! Nevertheless, you will get the drift!

It is extremely spacious, one would wonder in awe about the space. It does get noisy with the tables being set against each other and everybody having an opinion. I did see one or two tables that were a bit alienated from the rest, I guess it is for larger groups and must be reserved much in advance.
Would I come here again-Indeed!
Value for my money-considering the vegetarian part of the skewers-No, but a big Thumbs Up for the carnivores-Both the young and the old would enjoy it!
The non veg buffet is roughly priced @800 Rs and the veg is almost a hundred bucks less. Your bottle of water and other beverages are extra so MIND IT!!!
