A LiL bit of "Tadka" In my life!!!
A Tadka or a Tempering is done essentially in Indian Cooking/cuisine by adding a few whole or ground spices into hot oil or ghee to release the essence and aroma of the spice girls (to me all the spices are of the feminine gender, no arguments with me on that) And that crackling of mustard or other seeds/spices when infused into our curries or gravies...that's where all the magic and mojo happens!!!
Almost on par with this song:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK_LN3XEcnw
I am neither a hoarder nor a collector of vessels but I do have a few cuties that I use for tempering my dishes over the years. I love to rotate and take turns using them so that they do not feel left out...some of them have big egos like human beings!!!! Bleh! Meh!
So these are my three babes/babus whatever-Male or Female, it doesn't matter!!!
Now please don't bombard me with questions, "Where did you get them? what is the material?" blah blah blah...you can ask me... why they do not look dainty and clean and in all honesty I will answer you, I have issues with detergents and even if I sport disposable gloves, I just want to rip them apart and my skin reacts most of the time...I really don't care that much because I really don't care why I don't care...now does that make any sense?
I also do not keep a domestic help because I have heard most homes only crib and complain about the people they hire...very rarely do I ever hear someone appreciating a help. To those who do, bless you!!! I personally feel I can achieve more without being too dependent on anybody but then again...I do not know what fate has in store for me...until then, I love to relax at the end of the day by doing the dishes with my FM playing at the backdrop. So, if ever you come home, you will see stains on my main vessels and I do not have a dish washer (The quality of our water and lack of space is not ideal for one)
And at times when the husband sees the load in my sink, he does them for me...in fact he and his father (My father-in-law) actually do a better and decent job with vessels when they are by the kitchen sink. They go the whole nine yards of besides washing the dishes, brushing the stains off the sink and occasionally unclogging the drains with those unparalleled drain cleaners!!! The taps look shiny-exceptional cleaning indeed! If only I could wind him (not the FIL, the husband!!!) up like a wind-up toy whenever my vessels need a shine and a polish!!! I do hope he is reading this!
The worst part is after they do help out here and there...then it is the relentless almost annoying process of us answering the questions that follow...they follow us like lil kids asking, "Mommy did I do a good job?" "See, how much time I spent making this all glossy n Shiny for you." (picture me-hitting my head against the wall)
NOTE TO SELF:- 'Never ask the husband to help out or be prepared to answer the volley of questions that follow related to their cleaning.'
So having these lil Tadka/tempering vessels are of utility value in any Indian kitchen. I have done several dishes where there is a tempering done in the posts. Will share one herewith:-
http://potsnpans-peanuts.blogspot.in/2014/10/baingan-raitha.html You can see how the tadka has been done and how bland it would look without a tempering!!! So do invest in one or two such vessels.
Stay tuned for more Thursday tips...
