UnaMas Mexican Grill ( Chennai)

One night, after a late night at the movies, while driving back home we came across this new joint on Nungumbakkam. It reminded us that it is located quite close to the street where we once resided almost two decades ago. We did decide that we would visit this place soon as it looked inviting.

That busy road like many others have indeed seen such a facelift with so many restaurants and other offices or stores coming up, pulled down and replaced. It no longer looks like the road where we both walked hand in hand post marriage back in the 90's. Changes are good and am being optimistic that this will shine with all its might just like its well lit psychedelic name hoarding.

I do understand that it just sprung up three months ago. We were very happy with the expansive ambience and also happy that we were the only customers for a while until another set of customers walked in. They left in twenty minutes and once again we had the whole place to ourselves.

As I had already gone through their facebook page, I was sort of prepared for what was in store.

I loved this art on the ceiling. I guess it depicts everything Mexican!!! I can almost see two bulls and a Mexican vihuela, I could be wrong! This was so colourful that I sat and pondered what could have gone through the minds of the artists who did this.
 Absolutely gorgeous!
As we had a late breakfast, we went in late for lunch. I wanted to try out their chicken quesadilla and the husband wanted a spicy Mexican Chicken Combo.
There was clarity with the paintings and art done all over. Well researched I must say! And quite inviting interiors! Avocados! Do search my facebook page/blog for an avocado dip or Guacamole done by me with this fruit.

(Pic above)Burritos...perhaps during my next visit.
How lovely is that! So I am tom tomming to one and all about this place :)
Nice and Spicy huh? I am not sure of all the names of the peppers out there in Mexico but I guess Habanero is one amongst this lot.
Love the colours of those serving plates.

My chicken quesadilla priced at Rs.199/-I enjoyed it and like I mentioned earlier this was filling as I had a late breakfast.
That little and cute vessel was a dynamite-Picante Sauce/dip made with tomatoes and Jalapenos I guess. It was nice and spicy and please don't have it like you would do with ketchup or tomato sauce. This was spicy!

The Spicy Mexican combo (Rs.249/)-My husband did not enjoy this and did regret ordering it. He ended up wasting most of that meat and grilled/fajita veggies. He found it quite spicy...I guess it was just his bad luck or bad order as he always goes in for something spicy! The cilantro rice, salad and black beans were good. I did taste the chicken...I didn't like the spice rub used and it must be an acquired taste. We did tell them. I guess it was just his bad day with this order. He then ordered for a similar plate as mine as he was not full with that limited quantity of rice.

He enjoyed that in comparison to this combo.

It would have been reassuring for me if I saw them with their lids on!
Check out the chiller...cute desserts in miniature cups. One is what I had(pic shown below) and the other is a chocolate delish, I hope I got that name right.
Oh boy, this was really amazing...more than the feel of Madras Kaapi, it almost tasted like a toffee. This was their Madras Kaapi Panacotta! Priced at Rs.49/- I felt like having one more but I got dizzy and guilty just breaking down the ingredients in my head...cream, sugar, gelatine...A moment of bliss on our lips and forever on our hips!!! That is if your genetic composition makes you put on weight!

Treadmill, here I come...
I think this is an ideal space for friends or family. It does face a very busy main road and I would highlight that as a main flaw especially during peak hours. In my opinion it may be easy to drive in (space for almost three cars I assume) but it may be difficult to reverse and hit back on the roads after meals. I guess the guard should help out if he is alert!
I do not know the meaning of Una Mas but when I did a google search it says "One More Time" I could have searched wrong; I could be wrong! But yes maybe another day...One more time, I will return and would recommend my sons or their friends. Nice place to hang out. I would love to try out their other Mexican specialities.

Owing to my coffee craving, I had ordered a cappuccino (Rs.79/-) but was not happy with its authenticity. Could have been better...
This pillar was as magnificent as the art on the ceiling.
An average meal for two including a beverage and the related taxes would be Rs.1000/-

Perhaps some Mariachis missing...it's a new babe in town...I am positive we will have those as well!
