Garlic,Vampires and Moi

Recipe will be updated shortly...

Hey guys,here's the update:-

It's just incidental that today happens to be Bram Stoker's birthday, I never planned this to coincide with his birthday and this morning when I checked out the google doodle-Voila!
So,for those of you who are curious about who he is and what does garlic have to do with him?...it's at your fingertips-google him please :) search at your own risk...

I am die-hard,hard core fan of scary films,Ghost stories,Vampires,Draculas and the works...my sons find me very brave when I watch such films...especially my lil imp,he often has his eyes closed when the scary parts appear...ha ha!

So, was in a great mood for peeling garlic two days back. Steamed them a bit and kept them aside to cool.

In a heavy- bottom vessel, added a tbsp of coconut oil, ran my pestle over a handful of mustard so as to obtain crushed mustard-threw them into the hot oil to splutter. Then added two sliced onions, as they turned brown, added the green chillies(to your liking), then added atleast three sliced, medium size tomatoes and allowed both the onions and the tomatoes to get all mushy and cook in their own juices.

At this point, added a tsp of turmeric powder, a tsp or more of chilly powder and a tbsp of cumin powder along with some cumin seeds. The spices were tossed about so that they would evenly coat the tomatoes and onions. Then tamarind paste was added to get the tangy effect and then the steamed garlic was thrown into the tamarind-spice mix.

Added two tbsp of water to dilute the gravy and a tsp of brown sugar was added to get a sweet effect. This is optional and can be totally avoided, I liked it :)

Let the garlic merge with the rest of the thick gravy for a while. You may add half a cup of water as it tends o reduce while cooking, then add salt to taste and a handful of curry leaves to finish the dish.
It goes well with plain rice or even rotis/chapathis/naans.

Not everybody would enjoy eating garlic, but once cooked and in this gravy, it is heavenly!

Garlic was used to ward off the draculas and vampires in stories and movies...but I hope I have lured you all in trying out this dish. Enjoy!
keep the blood suckers away!
