Adieu Chef Jacob :( My Humble Tribute
Since yesterday evening, there is a gnawing pain throbbing through my heart and body...A kind of numbness which I felt when Pa passed away last year...yesterday, Chef Jacob of Jakob's kitchen passed away...I never met the man, always wanted to, never ate at his restaurants either but always saw the advertisements to his restaurants in the dailies as well as watched him on TV/ youtubed his recipes.
It's a kind of grief that one feels when somebody has been snatched away in the prime of their youth-he was a budding chef and an inspiration to many of us. Loved his French beard and his smile. He is also known for his marathon Barbecueing and did enter the Guinness book with that event if my memory serves right...
What I have recreated is a loose adaptation of his Thakali Biriyani/Tomato Biriyani, I would advise you to follow the recipe to the T as per his suggestions. I did follow, except that I didn't have Basmati Rice, so I guess it really isn't a Biriyani with all that flavour or aroma and I did add cashews and raisins as I had plenty at home. I was in mourning hence didn't want to go out to buy the rice, nevertheless I knew I would be forgiven by my readers...this is my tribute to Chef Jacob.
Many people especially his admirers,fans,people who knew him personally wondered what had God done especially as he was just thirty eight...My question is why blame it on God...Who is he/she?or what does that word "God" mean...I am clueless and am definitely not seeking any answers...
Guess, it was Jacob's time on earth to bid adieu and leave behind his restaurants, create history, stamp his mark in each of our hearts and depart...When there is a birth, we say "Thank God!" and a death "Why God?" silly things to cling on to...My take is While you are on this planet, enjoy life to the max, leave behind your footprints, learn to give than to expect or receive...create and recreate magic with what you are passionate about...and that's exactly what you did Chef Jacob!...with your recipes and food :)

So finally I did make my order from there as I had not been in good health...all I can say is... When the shepherd is away, the sheep remains astray...Wondering if this was the way it was when you were around?
