O'Roti, Trivandrum
Tucked away on a road so familiar to us which is making its presence felt slowly but steadily in the eatstreet bylanes of Trivandrum, Kerala... yet another new kid on the block.
We've been wanting to try this place for long but somehow I get too busy cooking the typical lunch and dinner at home for the family so never found time to try this place. Finally, an occasion arrived when we were forced to stop by and am glad we did. It has quelled my curiosity.
It indeed has several competitors within its ambit...That entire stretch between Kowdiar and Kuravankkonam, Thiruvananthapuram resembles the Khader Nawaz Khan road back in Chennai with too many restaurants and tea/snack/juice stalls.
I love the neon lit board of this place. Whenever I do click that I will update that pic in this post. I love the colour combo...the kind of colours I play around with while beading! Credit goes to the person who conceptualised that simple yet very Oomph O'Roti signage.
As we enter the restaurant, I got that "back to school" kind of feeling. Very unassuming seating done in pastel colours. I managed to click a bit of the art on their walls. Very simple interiors and nothing too loud to distract us from our food. I heard and understand that this place is run by a young couple, am yet to personally confirm that.
They have their menu for the day scribbled on their white board which keeps rotating with a variety of dishes throughout the week. As our choices were clear, the biriyanis made its way to our table in no time. Enjoyable! We had to wait a bit for the Chappathis but that wait was worth it as they were nice soft rotis right off the tawa. The mutton in the curry literally fell off its bone and tasted nice but I would have liked to see more pieces in the dish.
As this was our first time here, I am not going to nitpick too much...perhaps attention could be paid to the spellings of the items on the menu display board and we did get papadoms that were not crisp along with the biriyani. Whatever we had ordered were delicious and very homemade. I did notice that they have a snack counter as well within the restaurant with some stuffed snack...I am not sure what exactly it was.
The pricing was quite decent and reasonable. I do understand that they have a home delivery facility probably to places within their radius. There is ample carparking space in front of the restaurant.
Would I go there again? Of course I would...There are many more dishes to try out as and when more occasions arise and as time permits I would. I believe when they recently got a Jackfruit, they made Chakka (Jackfruit) Puzhukku and that was on their menu for the day. Interesting indeed!
The three of us enjoyed a hearty lunch.
