Mango Frooti (Inspirational Summer Post)
Frooti is a lovely, thick and almost fibrous tetra pack mango juice that we obtain in India. It was a favourite with my children when they were kids and is still a favourite with my younger one. I strongly believe my older one has grown out of that and is more careful with the intake of such beverages these days!
With the mango season in full burst, I tried to recreate this drink with a variety of inputs from the net. Most of the recipes were for large amounts of juice. As it was just the husband and I at home, we stuck to sharing a glass of this and quenched our summer thirst for the day.
Two small ripe mangoes to a raw mango were peeled, diced and put into the blender without the seed. Alternatively, one can cook this under pressure and later add the required sugar syrup, cold water and ice. I opted for the easy way out by combining the raw to the ripe in a 1:2 ratio without cooking it.
Once blended well, I added ice and a half cup water and blended them well as well. Later the sugar syrup was added to it. The recipes on the net call for almost a cup of sugar, I haven't added that much...for me it was to taste as this King of fruits on its own is a very sweet and luscious fruit. So kindly adjust to taste and keep your health parameters in mind.
Have it chilled. If you wish, you may strain the juice, I haven't as I love that fibrous texture in my mouth. Oh, how much I remember my boys and how they enjoy these when I used to buy the tetra pack versions for them.
