There's a lot I could write, there's a lot that I won't, there's an enormous amount of grief in my heart, there's hope at the end of the tunnel...there's hopelessness and helplessness for many...it boils down to the fact that Man in his greed to be more greedy has toyed around with nature that Nature retaliated with all her might... that she belched out the previous week. I am referring to the floods that happened a week back in Namma Chennai.

One cannot comprehend the damage, the repercussions, the loss, the bereavement, the corruption, the inexplicable deaths, the blind faiths, the deluge, the sewage...the list is endless.

Soon, life will get back to normalcy and the litter will continue, the blind faiths and worships will take lead; famous quotes from books/ Godmen /politicians will be misused; the natural calamity will go down in history and each accounted and unaccounted body will be a part of a census or somebody's thesis and the media will shred and rape the minds and hearts of those living...I am deeply pained and feel like jolting many from their slumber and selective blindness. This is my humble plea to one and all not to mess around with nature. She is aggressive yet can be very healing and compassionate if we treat her well.

In the midst of the chaos playing in mind, I tried to jot down my emotions being the person that I am and what I truly feel...all my feelings were just crumpled paper lying on the floor, I ended up baking. Got a cute recipe from YoYoMax and decided to take out my anger and helplessness in a creative manner.

Once they came out of the oven, I felt I had a story to tell and share...This is my dedication to all those who survived the ordeal, this is to those who are the unsung heroes, this is to those who never took selfies or promoted yourselves and shared your oneness with the suffering in all your actions and deeds; this is to those who didn't know how to swim yet garnered the courage to help other humans in distress; this is to those who opened your doors and kitchens to many irrespective of all the man made differences; this is to those who consciously allowed their private spaces and privacy to be encroached by the helpless and the homeless; this is to those who cooked, carried relief material, fed and shared relentlessly; this is to those who were helpless yet sat and shared any sensible piece of information online so that a human or an animal could be rescued; this is to those who cared and prioritised the elderly,  the women and children and gathered them into your arms; this is to all the youngsters who shed all their inhibitions and family advice and reached out personally to those who were marooned or drowning; Most importantly this is to those who were humane and  allowed humanity to guide and convince you...Grateful! Nanthri!

The photo above are those that were helpless and unable to save the ones drowning. The rich, the poor, the middleclass all were equalized in this tragedy...This itself denotes the smallness of man's thinking and the power of Nature and Science. While man/woman ensures that the domestic help uses another door to enter the house or sits in another space to wash the dishes that you ate from...In the eyes of Mother Nature...the separate entry doors and spaces were broken down, her vomit entered the BMWs, ravaged through the huge bungalows and slums alike, She left behind her puke and faeces in your street and mine...She levelled all of us...and that is the power of Nature...The harsh lessons we have hopefully learnt from this...
Those that never made it and got caught in the horrendous, appalling and nauseating rains and floods...The accounted and unaccounted loss of life, livelihood, property and businesses...devastating indeed! Such a humungous catastrophe!!!
Those who relentlessly tried to save themselves, lost a limb, a faith, peace of mind, a family member, all their IDs, their roofs or injured in the process... Those who need loads of counselling in this aftermath...I empathise...
Those like me who were already not in station and watched and read helplessly about Nature's fury lambast a city that gave you a life and that you love so dearly. All the loved ones scattered far away and unable to connect with their dear ones owing to power outages and conscious shutdowns by those incharge...I know how that felt...I desperately wrote to two strangers to know about somebody's safety...I still haven't got their replies but after five days of no cell phone connectivity I was connected to the person I was desperately reaching out to...Another friend found a signal when she went to some corner of her terrace and called to check on me...

These are the ones who made it ashore with the help of others, be it the elderly or the people who lost all their energy to wade through. Kudos to all those strong backs that carried those needed to be carried. The fathers and mothers who carried their grown up daughters and little bundles of joy in their arms and on their shoulders while they waded through chest level water. To my husband who rerouted a son's journey such that he fled that flooded route and joined us after hours via another airport only to be hugged and kissed by this hysteric mother.

To those who went back searching for their precious homes and prized possessions with wounded and tired bodies but strong mind and hearts, I bow down with respect...

The trauma and the terror will slowly fade...time may erase the pain and memories but Humanity is something that we can continue to guide and teach the future generations to come. Carry that torch forward instead of harping on silly man-made religious sentiments, blind beliefs and politics. Respect Nature! Don't Rip her apart...reconnect with her!

Not to forget tomorrow milk and ghee will be poured over the cut outs of famous personalities and flex boards made to denote the madness and aura about their birthdays and their movie releases...These are the things we have to curb, retrospect and rationalize! Our population as well is exploding...food for thought, does Nature and mother earth have space to accommodate us all?
