Children are like wet cement...whatever falls on them makes an impression #HappyChildrensDay
Whatever I do in my life I try to do with pure dedication and fervour. Definitely it has to do with good, honest upbringing and much credit to the teachers who groomed us back in school.
Very often I ended up as the class leader of my class and a favourite among many teachers. Eventually when it was time to stand for the school pupil leader, I did that too. I remember drawing out and colouring each and every badge that I had for my followers and attached a safety pin so that they could pin it against their pinafore in their support for me. I didn't have such a huge fan following but thanks to my crazy sports spirit and the basketball days...I had many from there who easily gave me votes. I didn't need to sweet talk to any of them. The campaigning days were fun...that was my first and only baby steps into politics-school politics!!! WINK! Wink!
We've had the best times during our games period and the various matches we've played. Thanks to all those girls who stood by me, I successfully made it to becoming the assistant school pupil leader. The school pupil leader was a more popular girl SPPP :) Thus I was very often in the limelight with my friends and teachers and worked hard in whatever I did back in school.
School life impressed me to the core and it carried on in my blood for so many years. I recently weaned off from my two decade tutoring job to spend more time with my husband and my aged in-laws.
Until then I was busy with rearing my own kids, others' kids and juggling with various other stuff. It was when my own children left home and took wings that the mothering sort of got severed. I felt a certain void in my life where my focus was on how I could cope with that emptiness...Trust me, it is not easy! One needs a lot of preparation and of course it does come instinctively at length but to go about it without getting depressed or feeling unworthy takes a lot of conscious preening. Nobody teaches us...we can just compare notes with others and draw inspiration. But we ourselves have to work towards it a great deal...
For me every Children's day(Indian) is special. It reminds me of school days both mine and the days I spent as a teacher and in my own home as a tutor for almost two decades. Letting go off the last phase of the teaching job was very painful. It was shutting off the noise from my life, putting a cork over my passion, bringing many stories that were shared by my students at our table to a sudden halt! But I did it to visit my in-laws at my pace and to travel and bond with my spouse. I know If I survive another decade, I may become a grandmother and I probably would impart knowledge to that child...but the time I consciously spend with my husband and his parents now...I will not get back as time won't wait for any of us...it is a bitch, it's a tease!
Today, being Children's day, I once again broke my head on how to spend my day. I worked a lot towards this day and I would like to share the memories I created... There are two gifts we should give our children...One is Roots...The other is Wings!
As baking has become a part of my newfound passion, I took my first baking class today. We did a few things that I presume would impress the kids and the following pictures will talk you through it. A lovely morning well spent reminding me that age is just a number and there's so much I can do with my life with a bit of planning, loads of hard work and time management.
Due to want of time, the carrot cupcakes were kept on hold...
The vegetarian Pizza scrolls
We ended up making mendiants!
Owing to all the butter and melted chocolate, I wasn't able to get the best pictures and failed to capture better pictures. This was a nice start and I enjoyed the company of my young companions...there is so much we learn from youngsters these days!!!
Yeast the beastly monster is ready for us to make the Pizza scrolls. The filling was American corn, tofu and all that jazz!
Helping me scatter the filling all over before we roll the dough for the second rise. They were literally eating the filling because they enjoyed the tofu! I am so happy!
Cat Paws-recipe from Cooking with Alia.
These are the Oreo owl cookies that they decorated, chewed and licked on. Nutella was used as a spread/frosting over the rich chocolate cupcakes. You may use this recipe from my blog to guide you...I used another richer one.

The kids decorated the cupcakes the way they wanted after they prepared the Oreo Owl cookies. They ate so many of them on the spot! Love it when kids behave as kids!!
The recipe for the pinwheel cookies will be linked herewith from my blog and that of the mendiants.
