A sprinkle Of SALT always makes a World of a difference

Once again it was catch up time and we all met at Forum Vijaya Mall, Vadapalani. It had been on my list of places to visit just for the sake of arresting my curiosity.

I do not like the concept of "Malls" but the situation we were in led us to do so rather than basking in the sun and tiring ourselves out in this summer that has spilled into the winter month that Chennai usually experiences.

Deep down in my forty-six year old young heart, I had heard and read good things about the restaurant "Salt" and I did want to try the place. Furthermore, it was close to lunch time and thought it best to spend the maximum time here as none of us came with any shopping agenda!!! Somebody had a craving for the ice-creams at Ibaco so we did head there as well later on. I didn't as I had just recovered from a very bad episode of asthma.

The entrance to the restaurant was indeed welcoming as was the ambiance within, but the simple fact that there weren't any customers way past half past one was indeed the first sign of a "Put Off" for us first timers.

Nevertheless, using the seemingly bad situation to our advantage, we cozied for a long time being the only few having our lunch. When we finally did see a couple or two walk in close to two, all hopes were not lost. Probably the weekend receives many patrons...I couldn't comment wholeheartedly on that!

As the Bento Box right on top of the menu card caught our attention, we went in for that while we chatted away and exchanged all kinds of pleasantries.
The staff was courteous and the entire ambiance was just made for our moment of togetherness. We had our privacy without any loud noise or blaring music.

And I got natural light by my side for the pics (cell phone uploads)
Only today while uploading the pics and scribbling down this post, I realized that it was a Navarathri special that we had gobbled down. I didn't read that when we had ordered it.
These colourful crispies were brought to our table within seconds of our order.
This is the tomato soup that was served along with the box. They also had a drink called The Marina Beach...Yikes! I thought I had captured that. I am getting really disoriented with my sequential pic captures I do feel bad that the picture is MIA! It was different and welcoming as a Welcome Drink! WINK!

The soup was nice and very tomatoish we slurped it till only those chopped garnishes were left behind!
Oh wow! What a pretty picture the box made. It came in with a lid and was opened only when we were about to dig in. Very inviting! It is vegetarian to keep in tune with the ongoing festive spirit. I must try their non-veg dishes later on during my future visits if at all there is one!
How did they guess that my name starts with an S? Such innovative things do fill my heart with appreciation for those who come up with such ideas! Ok let me break the suspense here...it has nothing to do with my name, it obviously has the initial of the restaurant. A moment of childish glee crushed when the brain tries to behave rationally and intelligently! Go take a hike brain!!!
I am not much of a "lentil" lover  like black chenna dal/chickpeas or Rajma. I know they are loaded with proteins and make great healthy dishes for vegetarians. But it does get a tad bit too heavy for me just by looking at these thickened gravies.
Food was tasty. This dish with the ginger juliennes I assume was very stringy and did get in my way and was unpleasant in my opinion. Were they drumsticks? The tandoor bread/rotis were good that accompanied the box and so was the cottage cheese/paneer which was prepared like some kind of a sandwich thingie...it had some spicy chutney in between.

The box with its ensemble is priced at Rs.325/- Was it worth it? Hmmm...it was alright if you are in the right company and with food aficionados. The dessert was two pieces of Gulab Jamuns!
Very spacious! Lovely natural light falling from one side, courteous and non medalling staff!
Everything was brought on time probably because we were the only customers for long. I couldn't comment how they would be on a very busy day/weekend.

Love the chalkboard display outside the restaurant with the specials and other related stuff that does draw one's attention. I didn't explore what the paintings or photographs are that adorned their walls as the company was too good and charismatic that I was pretty focussed with them. Perhaps another day for such distractions, another time with another companion or two...
A lovely afternoon indeed!

And just incase you are a Movie Buff like me, you would like to watch this thriller at some point in your life if you haven't already by now...
