KitKat Cupcakes (Fondbites-bakealong #80)

Kitkats bought and placed in the fridge last night.

With the cubs home for the summer, I got my hands full entertaining them with recipes that I have been inspired from the net, concocted recipes, from fellow bloggers, food aficionados and of course my online guide and mentor in most of my bakes, SR. The link to her blog and this particular recipe will be mentioned herewith. There are so many recipes that are pending from my end with the Bakealong group...the main reasons being keeping pace with the weekly bakes is not easy and of course the health factors involved.

Baking is all about piling on calories and acquiring prominent love handles. Would love to live a little bit longer without any major illness affecting my organs hence try to procrastinate these bakes until the kids are home, an order comes in or just because a guest was visiting! Every time we bake, I know how much tasting goes in and how the spatulas and bowls are literally licked clean off the batter!!! I know I am not alone here.
"To me food is as much about the moment, the occasion, the location and the company as it is about the taste."  -Heston Blumenthal

I have to be on extra guard over the ingredients I try to acquire when a bake demands certain things that I don't have at hand. Why? Oh the tendency for the boys and at times the husband to dig into stuff thinking it is rightfully theirs is quite high now followed by the blame game..."He did it/he ate it!" " I never touched it!!" Hence the picture as seen above. They tend to sit longer hours during the night and wake up late hence the stomach growls beyond normal sleeping hours and they are out raiding the larder or the fridge. I had a cake almost wiped off which I had religiously made for a friend. It was sad that they took that for granted but hey...they are family, I don't mind! Fortunately that day, I had another same flavoured naked cake reserved and managed to decorate that and give it off to my friend who was visiting Chennai for a few classes.

So here is the recipe for the week...Wow! The 80th bake! In all sincerity, I have skipped so many tough ones, jumped the sequence and avoided the ones which demanded more effort and loads of sugar  involved!!! But this baby, I just couldn't resist baking! I have done similar bakes with Ferrero Rocher and with snickers. Both for orders that friends wanted...hazelnuts and peanut butter flavours...I mean come on, who doesn't indulge in those unless one is allergic to those nuts!!!

There are a couple of preps involved. The bake on its own is simple. Once you get hold of your kitkats, it is a breeze! Nothing that you do not have at hand I am sure!

This bake is almost similar to the various chocolate insert bakes I have done earlier  just that its frosting had that extra caramel sauce. I haven't followed that topping as it is tedious for me hence used a cheat's way to that process. I did have caramel at home from a previous bake and did mix and match close to the topping SR mentioned and used the instant whipping cream (The Bluebird brand-it has all the instructions written on its pack so I followed that and added the caramel sauce and some store bought chocolate fudge sauce) I didn't get a perfect frosting to pipe well, nevertheless I know for sure I got the flavour profile right! Oh yumm!!! That's indeed a new mix n match for my taste buds! No doubt SR likes it and vouches for us to do this bake with this frosting! So do follow whatever she has mentioned.
I added a few mini wafers as well which have cream and Hazelnut flavour. Oh My!my boys are gonna smother me with their hugs and kisses once they are up and take a bite off this. To be honest, my younger imp woke me up last night itself..."Ma, Mama! whatever you are gonna bake with those kitkats tomorrow, is it for an order/for someone else, or for us?" He always needs that reassurance...I was fast asleep! This twenty year old child of mine, never ceases to leave me at peace! But I love his kisses and hugs!
That's my sous-chef Georgy!!! He's usually found in my lil garden amongst my cacti!
I garnished a few like so just because I liked that pop of colour and those stalks in the picture.
I also tried my hand at filling one with a few chilly flakes both within and outside. This time I also baked this in a paper tea cup-buttered it a bit, was happy with the result. Technically, am not sure if one can bake in such paper tea cups/party cups...but I felt that if the paper cupcake liners that we buy from the shops are good to bake, this may as well!

So go for this recipe -Father's Day coming up! The weekend approaching,A new week ahead...enjoy!
Like Heston puts it, "Can't rush chocolate, you got to seduce it." So that's how the Kitkat chocolate cupcakes are-pure seduction!!! Recipe link herewith:- Once again grateful for yet another bake which purely revolved around my children and the fact that they are home for the summer!
