Turkey Sandwiches
The first time I had Turkey sandwiches were when I visited my brother in the US. Once my sister-in-law fixed me my breakfast -a sandwich with turkey meat and the accompaniments that go with any sandwich.
It was a very tasty sandwich and I thought to myself if only I got such thin slices of meat easily available in my freezer section here in the supermarkets. She would have her avocado sandwich or her smoothie while I would have this or a banana.
Since then the taste of this sandwich used to linger in my mouth and that's when I happened to come across very recently the canned version of this meat in my supermarket.
It cost a bomb here (at least to my pocket) but I was willing to self explode in order to refresh that memory.
Brought it home and set about slicing the meat which is almost the shape of the container it is canned in. I couldn't get very thin slices (bad knife skills) Anyway, sliced them, sautéed them well on a lightly greased pan. Flipped both sides for even browning.I also grilled a few slices of shaved zucchini and added it to the sandwich
I sprinkled a dash of pepper on the zucchini, along with an iceberg lettuce and a bit of mayo. Piled them all like so on toasted bread. Placed a pitted black olive like so with a toothpick. Both the husband and I enjoyed these sandwiches and we did an encore with the same meat another day!
It was really delicious and I was happy that I could recreate that memory of having breakfast with my SIL at their dining table.
I love the way the sunlight falls into their kitchen and the kitchen overlooks their yard behind. If you sit by that window one could see a variety of birds and other small animals. In fact my SIL also has a little book on the shelf nearby which has all the names of the birds seen in America and I think she knows all the names of the birds that visit her backyard!
One can add a grilled tomato or a slice of cheese to this and enjoy the sandwich as well.
