Sabudhana Kichidi/Sago/Chowari
When one is under the weather for reasons you don't know perhaps a late night/lack of sleep, or perhaps one is fasting or as in my case a bad phase of just feeling low owing to something gnawing your brain besides the restlessness of a painful period... I think this is such comfort food! Very quick to prepare as long as you have soaked the sago pearls well in advance.
I had soaked mine for nearly three hours after which I drained them and set aside.
In a skillet, into hot oil, allowed a tsp. of mustard seeds to crackle followed by a tsp. of cumin seeds and finely grated ginger. As they splutter and the aroma of the ginger and cumin starts to emanate, throw in a finely diced onion, green chilly, finely chopped zucchini (optional-I used as I had some left-overs) and curry leaves.
Let the onions brown a bit, to it add a tsp. of turmeric powder and salt to taste. Toss them all about and then slide in the drained Sabudana/Sago pearls. Let them all merge well such that the pearls are evenly coated with the turmeric.
Do not add any additional water, it will make it sticky and soggy. Remember they were soaked and drained! You may sprinkle in a few drops if desired. With the wooden spatula, bring them all well together and squeeze in the juice of half a cheek or more of lime. Taste! ensure that there is sufficient salt.
Garnish with finely chopped cilantro. This is to be eaten warm and can be fed to growing up toddlers. You may sprinkle some crushed toasted peanuts as well. I didn't have hence used finely chopped almonds.
This is a nice tiffin box idea if the child can have it from a hot pack nice and warm.
I hate feeling low...it's just not me!!!
