Rich Fruit Cake

Celebrating my father's spirit today...three years have gone by...and this is the day you were hospitalised and put on a ventilator soon after...In five days the beautiful soul I literally hero worshipped and the kindest human being that you were gave up and the ventilator was shut down. Your radiance still lives on...the little lamp will be lit for the next five days in my quiet talk with you...keeping you so dear and close to my heart.

Furthermore, the disturbing, barbaric and senseless killing of innocent children in a neighbouring country disrupted me from my routine. I had to let my mind escape to another space...fortunately your first grandchild, my son...came at the right moment and interrupted me..."Ma teach me how to cook, am in a mood to try out something easy-peasy..." and that's how my evening progressed...thank God that family can be such a huge advantage and a distraction!!! And we did do some cooking together!
Decided to start on a small batch of rich fruit cake and it was meditative!
Baking is always meditative...the waft! the smell of the boozy fruits...and the long wait to see the perfect colour...may not be the perfect one, but the closest I could get around to. Pa I celebrate you and your life...and all the Christmases we've had together as a family!

And that is to all the children whom stupid, inhumane adults do not allow to blossom and bloom...
And my celebration is to say a little Prayer for you...not to any of the blind man-made gods...but a quiet prayer and chat with you my dearest pillar of strength. Rest In Peace!

I love this song of Arethra Franklin's and thought my readers would enjoy it as much...it was used in a Julia Robert's film, "My Best Friend's Wedding" This song is a celebration of things gained and lost...

The recipe is a part of our Bakealong, the last time I had baked a fruit cake was a good friend's recipe that I had at hand...this time, I decided to use our Bake Along recipe and this is the link :

By the time you were brought home after all the strict official procedures in the country that you worked, resided in and breathed your last beautiful breath...it certainly was you by the name on the cargo you were brought in but it certainly didn't look like you Pa...but...Pa, we had so much unfinished conversations and incomplete hugs...and slices of rich fruit cakes to have...
