Kumarakom, Nungumbakkam, Chennai

With the paint job happening at home (as seen in my previous post) and just the desired amount of cooking happening to satiate our hunger pangs, I truly needed a break from the humdrum of my own cooking. That's my quarter functioning kitchen. I am just itching to bake. Already, I have this cute order for my friend but being as kind as she is, they let me bake it till I am relaxed.

So, when the husband asks me, "Shall we go to Kumarakkom for dinner?" (Psst! which also happens to be his favourite haunt) I grabbed at it, as I was exhausted and full of paint here n there. You must be wondering why we chose to be at home while the paint job was happening, Oh Well! We had limited choices and as all our precious things are at home, this was the best and most rational option to be at home and supervise the work or make a cup of tea for the painters.

So husband's Kumarakkom, it was for dinner. We were hungry, damn hungry! Requested him to get something packed for the next day as well so that I could avoid standing or is it hanging by the stove. So, we got some stuff packed as well.

I love Kumarakkom as well but of late whenever we buy/box stuff for take home, either something is missing from the pack or there is an excess of an item that we had ordered and one missing from the order whereby the pairing goes wrong That's my grouse of late and I did notice their prices have increased a bit here and there but that's alright. I know how skyrocketing prices can get when it comes to provisions, poultry or vegetables.

That's the egg roast I ordered to go with my parathas. And below is the beef fry that the husband had ordered for himself. Occasionally, their beef is rubbery but this time round it was well cooked and we were happy with the taste.

These are their lovely flaky Kerala parathas. I did notice a North Indian, elderly gentleman at the adjacent table order some other spicy stuff and when he saw our Kerala Parathas, he placed that order later on for himself and his companion.

Oh did I tell you that there is a theme going on right now-as shown below on the menu card designed just for this theme. It's about the dosas (fermented lentil pancakes) Puttu (steamed funnel cake) and Pattum (songs) As the card says it is on until the end of this month.

The photo below is about the ethakaya appams/Pazham Pori that we had as dessert. These were done with really overripe ones! I have a post for the same.I am not particularly fond of overripe ones so the husband grabbed at my half as well. Do go through my blog under the same title. That's a part of the happening theme right now,
Look at that superb menu!

Yes baby! I do not disagree!!! We have been eating at your place for donkey years!

And we always have come back and even brought most of our guests here. I love the authenticity of the flavours and that hasn't changed one bit! The ambiance could improve ten-fold though. I do not like the smell of their upholstery and the colour.

As far as the songs of the ongoing theme goes, love the concept always. They used to have this on a regular basis years ago until perhaps they ran out of songs??? or good singers! or somebody complained, I wouldn't know!!!

The evening was good and so were the songs, but those long pauses between songs could be avoided. It's as if they were figuring out what to sing based on the pulse of the diners. When we dined in there were just a few of us perhaps owing to the rains. I do know for sure they are very often jam-packed during their meals/lunch time.

We have waited several times at their waiting lounge for a table. But it has always been worth the wait.
