Red Rice Funnel Cake (Puttu)
Take the required Rice powder from the packet and add some salt |
These are two of my favourite brands-of course there are people who still love to pound their own rice flour...as you can see I come under the "lazy" category |
Please remember the red rice version is healtier than the white rice flour version...and that's my version! the choice is urs! |
He is the hero who adds meaning to this dish-the coconut |
Once the salt is added to the rice flour, take some water and lightly toss and turn through this flour to get it to this consistency |
Do not add the entire water at one go, just feel thru the flour as if you are feeling through your hair but with water. Do not knead or make it a dough!!! |
The coconut is being grated on my table mounted coconut scraper. |
That's my scraper...Oops!it does need a thorough cleaning!!! |
My late mother's tip-waste not want not! so once you are done grating the coconut, take a spoon and scrape through whatever is remaining and then discard the shell :) |
This is how I layer the rice flour-some grated coconut, some rice flour, some grated coconut, some rice flour -see the picture on the cover of the rice flour packet to comprehend further :) |
On the stove... |
Steaming away-can you see the steam? |
Be rest assured! this is healthy as it is steamed! |
That's what you want to see...the food that makes you smile! |
Did you notice that the Puttu is also smiling back at us! ENJOY! |
